| Bodmin is the former county town for Cornwall and it is situated equidistant between the north and south coasts. It is served by the two major trunk roads (the A30 and A38) that run through the centre of the County. Bodmin Parkway railway station has a direct link to Paddington Station in London and the town is 20 miles form Newquay Airport which has direct air links to London and other domestic and international destinations.
With a population of around 13,000 the town is well served by a range of services. It has three major supermarkets – Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrison’s, a NHS Treatment Centre (Bodmin Hospital) and a number of familiar names such as Boots and WHSmith in the town centre in Fore Street.
Bodmin is steeped in history with the notorious Bodmin Gaol, Assize Hall and Shire House open to visitors. Towering above the town is the 144ft obelisk on Bodmin Beacon in memory of Lt.-Gen. Sir Walter Raleigh. There is also the Bodmin and Wenford steam railway as well as the Camel Trail cycle track along the old railway line to Padstow. Lanhydrock (National Trust) and Bodmin Moor are close by. The respected Lanhydrock Golf Club is about three miles from the town centre.
